Editorial Standards

Effective Date: September 30, 2026
Last Updated: September 30, 2026

At Pursuing Optimal Health LLC (“Pursuing Optimal Health,” “POH,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), our mission is to help adults over 50 make smarter decisions about their health, fitness, nutrition, healthy aging, and longevity.

The health and wellness industry is filled with conflicting advice, exaggerated claims, emerging science, and products promising dramatic results.

Our goal is to be a trusted filter.

These Editorial Standards explain how we approach the information, reviews, recommendations, and other content published by Pursuing Optimal Health.

Our Core Principles

Fundamentals Before Optimization

We believe the foundations of good health generally deserve attention before advanced optimization strategies.

Those foundations may include appropriate preventive healthcare, good nutrition, strength training, cardiovascular exercise, daily movement, healthy body composition, adequate sleep, recovery, and sustainable habits.

We don't believe everyone needs every supplement, test, wearable, device, or longevity intervention.

Before recommending an advanced optimization strategy, we try to put it in the context of the fundamentals that matter first.

Evidence Before Hype

We aim to distinguish among established evidence, emerging research, expert opinion, manufacturer claims, and personal experience.

Health science evolves, and reasonable experts can sometimes interpret evidence differently.

When evidence is limited, preliminary, mixed, or uncertain, we strive to communicate that uncertainty rather than present emerging ideas as established facts.

Measurement Before Guessing

Whenever practical, we believe useful health decisions should be informed by appropriate measurement rather than assumptions.

That may include blood pressure, appropriate laboratory testing, strength and fitness benchmarks, body composition trends, sleep patterns, or other relevant information.

More data, however, isn't automatically better health.

A test or device is valuable only to the extent that its information can help you make an appropriate decision.

Consistency Before Perfection

Sustainable health behaviors practiced consistently are generally more useful than pursuing a theoretically perfect program that cannot be maintained.

Our content emphasizes practical strategies that can fit into real life.

Capability Before Vanity

Looking better can be a worthwhile goal, but health after 50 is about much more than appearance.

We place particular emphasis on maintaining strength, mobility, cardiovascular fitness, metabolic health, energy, independence, and the physical capability to continue doing the things you enjoy.

Fewer Things Done Well

The health optimization industry can make people feel as though they need dozens of supplements, tests, devices, and protocols.

We disagree.

Our goal is to help readers identify what may matter most rather than simply add more interventions.

Earn the Right to Optimize

Advanced optimization becomes more useful when the fundamentals are already reasonably strong.

Our general framework is:

Assess → Prioritize → Improve → Measure → Reassess

You don't need to optimize everything.

You need to know what to optimize next.

How We Evaluate Products and Services

Products and services featured by POH may include supplements, foods, fitness equipment, testing services, wearables, recovery tools, saunas, health technology, books, software, and other health-related resources.

When appropriate, we may consider factors such as:

  • Evidence supporting the underlying product or approach
  • Product quality and ingredients
  • Company transparency
  • Relevance to adults over 50
  • Practical usefulness
  • Ease of use
  • Value relative to alternatives
  • Our firsthand experience
  • Customer experience and reputation
  • Whether the product solves a meaningful problem
  • Whether a simpler or less expensive alternative might accomplish the same objective

We may recommend products we have personally purchased or used.

We may also discuss products we have not personally used when we believe they warrant consideration based on our research. When firsthand experience is relevant to a review, we aim to make clear whether we have that experience.

Personal Experience

One way we aim to differentiate POH is by sharing genuine firsthand experience whenever possible.

If we say we use a product, have taken a test, own a device, or have followed a particular protocol, that statement is intended to reflect our actual experience.

Personal experience, however, is not scientific proof.

One person's experience with a supplement, food, test, device, exercise program, or other health intervention does not establish that another person will experience the same result.

Manufacturer Claims

Companies sometimes make specific claims about their products, technologies, ingredients, testing methods, or potential benefits.

When appropriate, we attempt to distinguish manufacturer claims from conclusions supported by independent evidence.

Reporting or discussing a manufacturer's claim does not necessarily mean POH has independently verified or endorsed that claim.

Affiliate Relationships

Pursuing Optimal Health is reader-supported.

Some companies and products we discuss participate in affiliate programs. If you purchase through certain links on our website, POH may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate compensation does not determine our editorial conclusions.

A company does not earn a place in our Health Toolkit simply because it offers an affiliate commission.

Whenever practical, we prefer partnerships with companies and products that we already use, trust, have researched, or believe genuinely fit the needs of our audience.

We may recommend products for which we receive no compensation, and we may choose not to recommend products even when an affiliate relationship is available.

Please see our Affiliate Disclosure for additional information.

Sponsored Content and Free Products

If POH receives compensation, free products, discounts, travel, services, or another material benefit connected with content or an endorsement, we intend to disclose that relationship clearly when appropriate or required.

Receiving a product does not guarantee favorable coverage.

Medical Content

POH provides health and wellness education, not individualized medical care.

Our content should not be interpreted as diagnosis, treatment, or individualized medical advice.

Readers should consult qualified healthcare professionals when appropriate, particularly before making decisions involving medical conditions, medications, significant dietary changes, supplements, testing, or exercise when individual circumstances may affect safety.

Please see our Medical Disclaimer for additional information.

Our Editorial Commitment

Our goal isn't to convince you to buy more health products.

It's to help you make better health decisions.

Sometimes our conclusion will be that a product, test, or service is worth considering.

Sometimes our conclusion will be that it isn't necessary.

And sometimes the best recommendation will simply be:

Save your money and focus on the fundamentals first.

That's the standard we intend to bring to Pursuing Optimal Health.

Empowering adults over 50 with evidence-based guidance to

reclaim vitality and achieve optimal health.
